Returning to action at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid secured a key win against Valencia to temporally close in on la liga top spot before Sevilla and Barcelona’s matches on sunday.

Real Madrid recovered from the 3-0 loss at Eibar with a 2-0 win over red-hot Valencia on Saturday.

Valencia was on a three straight win in la liga but were stopped by los blancos who moved from sixth to fifth in the la liga, three points behind leader Sevilla and two points behind second-place Barcelona.

Real Madrid was playing at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium for the first time after four straight away games, and was loudly cheered by fans after the match, despite a lackluster second half.

There were some jeers for Gareth Bale after another mediocre display when he was substituted for Marco Asensio in the second half. Luka Modric also was replaced, by Federico Valverde.

Solari’s team had now done the hardest part: score against the tightest defence in La Liga.

This victory comes a long way to build some confidence within the real madrid squad who have been very poor this season in terms of winning and keeping clean sheets.
